Fashion trends S/S 2014

Tired of this cold long winter I decided to focus on summer. I know it's still far but, you know what they say, dream doesn't cost a thing. So I took a look to s/s 2014 fashion shows. A lot of proposals for the next season. Among confirmations and comebacks designers give space to minimal inclinations and exuberance translated in several creative themes like folk, pop and tribal.

ARTISTIC SPIRIT
Antonio Marras, Aquilano Rimondi, Prada, Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Giles
Oscar Wilde said that "one should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art". No quote is fairer to describe one of the coolest trend of s/s 2014. That's how bring to life clothes that look like paintings, that represent drawings and pictures of female faces, each of them inspired by the greatest artists like Paul Gauguin and Diego Rivera.

Fashion trends 2013: Smoking

<<So, I'm a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman>>. This is what Julie Andrews said in a scene of one of her best movies Victor/Victoria and this might be the perfect interpretation of one of the coolest trends for S/S season 2013: Smoking style.

Fashion trends 2013: Python style

Hi ladies, we're almost here! Summer is coming soon... well, that's what calendar says because, until now, of sun and warm we've seen really a little! But, don't worry: the moment to lie on the beach and enjoy the sun will come soon! And, with the good season, you know, the desire to undress and show off your tan is strong, maybe made more daring by the choice of outfits, colora and fabrics that enphasize the contrast.

Skin on skin... this could be a key to understanding of one of the coolest trend of S/S 2013: python style. Traditionally worn during the f/w season, this year it's one of the hottest trends for the hottest one. Natural or colored in warm and seductive shades, mixed with patchwork and other prints or maybe on accessories, the password is only one: change skin. Just like a snake. Crawling, python print is done through the glamourest catwalks of fashion scene. From Preen to Gucci, passing by Valentino, Salvatore Ferragamo and Roberto Cavalli. The result? Ladylike and attractive, absolutely super cool!

Fashion trends 2013: Postcard

People doesn't nothing but talk about their plain for holidays? Maybe in some far and exotic places? Well, send them a postcard! Yes, you've got it. One of the coolest and most original trend proposed for S/S 2013 is, in fact, the postcard style. Clothes and accessories where stand out landscapes and suggestive views that, just like a postcard, tell everyone the beauties of many countries.

And that's how, from the coolest fashion shows of the whole world brands like Mary Katrantzou, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Charles de Castelbajac brings on catwalk the magic of wonderful places to show off with elegance and ease.

Fashion trends 2013: Floral style

In one of the most hilarious scenes of the movie The devil wears Prada, the great Meryl Streep, in the role of the merciless editor of Runway Magazine Miranda Priestly, comments season trends in this way: <<Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking!>>. But, despite what Miranda says, floral style is everything but trivial and confirms itself, once again, as true evergreen of season, present in its every declination on clothes and accessories.

Enough with daisies and delicate little flowers, bon ton style. This season, flowers are revisited in a more modern way: grafic, stylized, abstract. In short, is back a trend that is still capable to amaze, although is not exactly a news... and, please, Miranda will forgive us! Seem light years away the times the s/s 2012 collections by Louis Vuitton, Blumarine, Dolce & Gabbana and Blugirl where, like old paintings, elegant floral prints stand out gently on clothes.

Fashion trends 2013: Stripes

Horizontal, vertical, colored or black and white, there's no doubt that one of the hottest trends for S/S 2013 are Stripes. As a true evergreen it's inevitable during summer and this year it's under the spotlights for eye-catching total looks or pieces to mix with basic outfits or other prints, for  a super glamour effect!

Already present in the s/s 2012 collections of Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Burberry Prorsum and Mulberry (just to quote a few), this year stripes are proposed by brands like Acne, Temperly London, Marc Jacobs and Moschino in a contemporary way that winks to 60's twist, the years of Twiggy and mini skirt, for cooler effect.

Fashion trends 2013: Geometric

One of the most original trends proposed for S/S 2013 is, for sure, the Geometric style. Squares, rhombus, rectangles, strigh and sharp lines, right angles, games of volumes and patterns (rigorously geometric style) will invade clothes and accessories for the next season.

That is 60's inspired or blatantly 80's style, this is one of the coolest must of this year, proposed last season by Preen, Christian Dior and Milly and celebrated now by brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Sportmax, Balmain and Aquilano Rimondi.

Christian Dior, Holly Fulton, Preen, Gucci s/s 2012
...

Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Roksanda Ilincic, Acne, Aquilano Rimondi s/s 2013

Louis Vuitton, Marni, Hérmes, Versus s/s 2013
Sportmax, Massimo Rebecchi, Balmain, Alexandre Herchcovitch s/s 2013

I really like geometric trend, especially black and white and 60's style even if, to be honest, it's not suitable to everyone in particular if it's in total look version. But you know what they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so if you love this style and you don't want to give up to be trendy, you can opt for a more soft version matching some geometric piece to a more basic outfit: the result is guaranteed and very cool.

Fashion trends 2013: White

After the last exhausting rainy days it's time to take a break and travel with your mind for a few minutes, pretending to be lying under the bright and warm sun of some island in the heart of Caribbean sea... however you know what they say: dreaming doesn't cost a thing! But beyond dreams and imagination, it's time for us to be prepared for summer and refrsh our wardrobe...
If the griefs and the rigors of the economic crisis have demoralized you, cheer up: S/S 2013 promises  cheerful, light and relaxed. After a winter characterized by baroque, neo-victorian and gothic references, dominated by strong and dark colors like black and burgundy, this summer will be full of bright colors!

Pretty in white... this is the key word of s/s 2013. The non-color par excellence is confirmed as one of the hottest trends of season presented in a new and cooler way, characterized by transparences, overlaps, laces and embroidery that make it elegant, romantic, easy and sexy at the same time. Who tought that white was a banal choice for summer will have to change his mind...

After being protagonist of the s/s 2012 collections of Louis Vuitton, Byblos, Versace and Ralph Lauren, among the others, this year it's presented by brands like Christian Dior, Ermanno Scervino, Chanel, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli, just to quote a few, that have chosen it to celebrate a white summer.

Byblos, Fendi, Andrew Gn, Versace s/s 2012
Louis Vuitton, Alberta Ferretti, Ralph Lauren, .Normaluisa s/s 2012
 ...

Maison Martin Margiela, Jil Sander, Diane von Furstenbeg, Ann Demeulemeester s/s 2013
Chalayan, DKNY, Rick Owens, Fendi s/s 2013
Gucci, Valentino, Ermanno Scervino, Chanel s/s 2013
Stella McCartney, Chloé, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood Gold Label s/s 2013

I don't think that exists another color that represents summer better than white: it's so fresh and bright and it's able, like other few colors, to give to the most basic outfits an allure of grace and elegance... a from of inconscious innocence, a statement of intent, presented like a canvas to be painted.

Fashion trends F/W 2012-13: Colors

The collections proposed for this f/w season 2012-13 are, in almost all, played on the heart's tones, all quite basic like white, powder, brown, blue, green and black conjugated in all their shades. There are, however, intense and bright hues like yellow, orange, teal and magenta that give to us the right energy to face these cold days with a hint of color!

YELLOW
Lanvin, Prada, Versace, Blumarine f/w 2012-13
Sunny color by definition, this year is present in its most intense shades like ocher and indian yellow in the collections of Lanvin, Versace, Prada and Blumarine. It's also perfect to combine with colors like black, brown or blue for a cool color blocking in full winter season!

ORANGE
Giorgio Armani, Carven, Guy Laroche, Just Cavalli f/w 2012-13
Like yellow is one of those colors that seem so warm and reassuring, perfect for winter season 'cause they remind of intense and enveloping heart tones, perfectly matchable with white, brown and blue ad proposed by brands like Guy Laroche, Just Cavalli, Giorgio Armani and  Carven.

TEAL
Lanvin, Maurizio Pecoraro, Antonio Marras, Philipp Lim f/w 2012-13
Fascinating and trendy, teal is one of the colors most seen in the shops and main hue of the collections presented by Lanvin, Antonio Marras, Maurizio Pecoraro and Philipp Lim. With its game of blue and green shades, it can be matched with an almost infinite range of colors: from black to white, form beige to violet, passing through burgundy and metal colors like bronze and gold. The result? Always super cool!

MAGENTA
Versus, Byblos, Blumarine, Bestey Johnson f/w 2012-13
Last but not least, among the coolest colors of f/w season 2012-13, the tint that you would not have expected: magenta. Intense, bright and lively, this color is what we need to face cold and rauny days. Its natural energy could not be noticed. Magente so appears in all its energy in the collections of Blumarine, Betsey Johnson, Versus and Byblos.

Neo victorian style

In spite of the austerity and the period of crisis, this season seems to be dedicated to regal women. They are urban princesses who face everyday life with style and elegance, looking for luxory on clothes and eccessories, eager to tenderness and romance. That's how a new trend is imposed on the fashion scene. I'm talking about Neo-Victorian style, one of the most classy and sophisticated trend proposed for f/w 2012-13

"Neo-Victorian" - Vogue Netherlands (November 2012)

A lot of brands have been conquered by this style in past seasons, among them Chanel, Anna Sui, Zac Posen and  Vivienne Westwood in their f/w 2009-10 or even  collections.

Chanel, Anna Sui, Vivienne Westwood f/w 2009-10
Zac Posen f/w 2009-10, Christian Dior, Emilio Pucci f/w 2011-12

This year neo-victorian style sees a new light thanks to tv shows like Downtown Abbey and they are brought into vogue by brands like Stella McCartney, Aquilano Rimondi, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta, just to list a few.

Oscar de la Renta, Aquilano Rimondi, Dolce & Gabbana f/w 2012-13
Gucci, Valentino, Stella McCartney f/w 2012-13

As modern Jane Austen we say yes to laces and embroidery, tartan patterns and bows, velvet and ruffles that frame the neck, crystal decorations and accessories made with stones and rhinestones that look like crowns, showing off opulence and refinement. I like this style so much, it's so retro and modern at the same time, so refined but also so easy to wear. Here some examples of how I like to wear neo-victorian style:

This will aways be my safe place... - Miu Miu's polyvore
Neo-Victorian style - Miu Miu's polyvore

I admitt that a total look might seem a little exagerate, but if it's matched in the right way the final effect is super cool. My fashion tip?  If you like this look you can wear it in the way of Yulia Tymoshenko, ex Prime Minister of Ukraine and perfect icon of neo-victorian style, or  if  you want to try something different you can  take inspiration by the look worn by Victoria Beckham matching a long pencil skirt with a shirt and a large tie.

Trends 2012: Ottoman twist

Talking about trends proposed for f/w 2012-13, we've seen intense colors like black, brown, red and green, luxorious fabrics like velvet and brocade and glamurous inspiration like baroque, gothic and soldier style. Could prints miss to this list? Of course not! To animate the cold and grey winter days will be palatial prints inspired by the splendor of Ottoman Empire.

Amazing and rich decors go from delicate floral themes to stylized animals which lines flow to cool geometric themes, each of which reminds to 60's and 70's fashion, for a super glamour effect. Perfect for outwear, this prints are also amazing on suits, dresses, skirt and pants. Brands like Prada, Christian Dior, Versus and Marni, have been conquered by the timeless charm of the oriental atmospheres and, this year, they will make us dream, turning us in so many modern Sheherazade.

Prada, Giambattista Valli, Hermés f/w 2012-13
Marni, Valentino, Dévastée f/w 2012-13
Peter Jensen, Christian Dior, Versus f/w 2012-13
I absolutely adore this style! When I worn this kind of prints and I close my eyes, I can feel the breeze of the east winds, smell the parfums of the spices and see the charming colors of Middle East. Is amazing  to see the effect that this style has on me, I imagine sultants, sumptuous palaces and mysterious princesses... I feel like Jasmine on the magic carpet... Back in the real world, I love to wear this style. I like to combine the prints each other and with other basic ones, just like that:

Ottoman prints #1 - Miu Miu's polyvore
Ottoman prints #2 - Miu Miu's polyvore

My fashion tip? Have fun and play with mix and match, contrasts and overlapping colors, to replicate them infinite times. The result is kaleidoscopic and absolutely super glamour!

Trends 2012: Asian style

Among the hottest trends proposed for f/w 2012-13 season there's, for sure, the one influenced by the East atmospheres, made of opulence and exoticism. Distant and fascinating countries, each of them characterized by suggestive views and surrounded by an aura of mystery and full  of fantastic stories, myths and legends.

The secret chatter of Golden Monkeys - Vogue Japan (October 2012)

The timeless charm of the Far East had already conquered the fashion world at the begin of the twentieth century, when the historic designer Paul Poiret used it as  inspiration for his collection, characterizing the f/w 2009-10 collection of Dior, Basso & Brooke and Erdem and the s/s 2011 ones of Kenzo, Givenchy, Dries van Noten and Louis Vuitton.

Basso & Brooke, Christian Dior, Erdem f/w 2009-10
Givenchy, Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti, Kenzo s/s 2011
Dries van Noten, Louis Vuitton, Kenzo s/s 2011

Asian style, with its waelth of floral prints, precious fabrics and  luxurious gold inserts couldn't not be noted, especially in a moment of austerity like this and, this year, is brought on catwalk by brands like Proenza Schouler, Antonio Marras, Etro, Aquilano Rimondi and Jason Wu that show off to us all its cool androgynous look that astonishes and inspires.

Proenza Schouler, Aquilano Rimondi, Balenciaga f/w 2012-13
Antonio Marras, A Détacher, Cacharel f/w 2012-13
Jason Wu, Marni, Ralph Lauren f/w 2012-13
Dries van Note, Etro, Sportmax f/w 2012-13
Fendi, Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton f/w 2012-13

I've always liked asian style so much! It makes me think to a a time so far but at the same time so close,  full of charm and glamour. It also makes me think to Mulan and the traditional asian clothes: from the amazing kimono dresses to the traditional umbrellas. Everything in it is so rich, sophisticated and elegant and it meants to be a must for this f/w season. If it's worn with moderation, this is a style that can be suitable to everyone.

The August Issue - Vogue Russia (August 2012)

If you like it, you can wear this style taking inspiration by the outfits worn by celebs like Katy Perry  Dakota Fanning and Solange Knowles. Check it out:

Katy Perry at MTV VMAs 2011
Dakota Fanning at CFDA Fashion Awards 2012

Solange Knowles at Mulberry's 40th anniversary

My fashion tip? You can opt for a total look, particular and characteristic, or mix it with some casual pieces, like a kimono jacket matched with a pair of jeans, for example,  or combine an origami dress with some asian accessories, without loose that oriental touch so modern and glamour, just like that:

Fuga al Sol Levante - Ladyfairy's polyvore
J.Lo - Miu Miu's polyvore
Crystalline - Miu Miu's polyvore
Asian inspiration - Miu Miu's polyvore
To complete the look take inspiration by the trend makeup seen on Zac Posen's show f/w 2012-13 or check out the Lavish Oriental collection by KIKO or Cherry Blossom by Essence
