I love shopping around the world: London

As every month, here's my "guide" dedicated to shopping around the world. The city I chose this time is London (how couldn't it be in the upcoming Olympics?), a city that I particularly love: it's a great mix of tradition, elegance and poise, with a deep rock sould and an innovative, young and open spirit, and  that reminds me so many moments...

You know, shopping is an important part of every travel. No one can resist to temptation of buy something that will remind that travel forever. But few city are perfect for shopping as London is. Shopping in London is an event. You can find whatever you're looking for, litteraly! Whether you choose a low cost shopping, whether you want to shop like a member of the Royal Family, buying clothes and shoes that cost as a trip to Maldives. There's something for every taste and all budgets.
London is the Mecca of all fashion addicted and, as every city, has its shopping street: we have Oxford Street (with many modern fashion stores), Knightbridge (the home of Harvey Nichols), Covent Garden, Regent Street (there are a lot of store/laboratory where you can buy pieces of the collections of young designers), Carnaby Street, Portobello, Bond Street (where you will find english and international designers), Soho, one of the most interesting and multiethnic districts of London where you can find  the  most interesting shops of the city in Gerrard Street, Gerrard Place, Wardourd Street and Newport Place, King's Road (center of young fashion, english designers and artists, antiques, department stores), Old Bond Strett (for an expensive shopping in stores like Nicole Fahr, Chanel and Gianni Versace), Roman Road (second hand shopping).
For the lovers of low cost fashion I suggest stores like Urban outfitters (36/38, Kensington High Street): here you will find a funny and little kitsch style that plays with provocation and exaggeration. A positive note for the originality of accessories: so particular necklaces, pins and watches with very good prices. Urban outfitters lifestyle and concept store (42/56, Earhlam Street): they sale vintage, retro and hipster clothing, accessories and accessories for home. Primark (499/517, Oxford Street): a particular store that sales copies of dresses and accessories that you see on catwalks.

Urban Outfitters

So you can wear the trend you want in cheap version. If you find something you like, don't miss the occasion: the offers change every day. New look (500/502, Oxford Street): it offers london fashion with affordable prices. Here you can find a lot of range for your basic looks with always new collections. Topshop (189, Oxford Street): the famous low cost clothing chain chosen by stars and fashion icon as Kate Moss and Olivia Palermo, just to quote some. A similar store is Miss Selfridges that you can find in 216, Oxford Street. Tk Maxx (26/40, Kensington High Street): low cost chains that sale clothing, accessories and household items. BHS, Mark's and Spencer and Tesco (129/137, Marylebone Road - 458, Oxford Street Marylebone - 22/25, Bedford Street): clothing, accessories and household items with mini prices. Claire's (Unit 24b, Trocadero Center, - 7/14, Coventy  Street): here you'll find many accessories, jewels and headbands. H/M: another famous low cost store located in 234, Regent Street. Zara (215/219, Oxfrod Street), Mango (225/235, Oxford Street).

Miss Selfridge

For a more expensive shopping you can visit flagship stores like Vivienne Westwood (44, Conduit Street), Alexander McQueen (4/5, Old Bond Street), Issey Miyake (52/53, Conduit Street), Jimmy Choo (32, Sloan Street), Burberry (21/23, New Bond Street), just to quote some. Then we have stores like Aquascutum (100, Regent Street), Browns (39, South Molton Street), Couverture and Garbstore (310, King's Road), Harvey Nichols (109/125, Knightbridge), Christie's (85, Old Brompton Road), Antoni and Alison (43, Rosebery Avenue): a great house - museum that sells clothing and household items made by the owners of the house, two photograpers).

Harvey Nichols

For who, like me, is mad for shoes, shops to visit are: Berluti (4, Harriet Street), Kate Cuba (26, Brook Street), Natural shoes store (325, King's Road), Selfridge's shoe galleries (Oxford Street),  Office (190, Oxford Street). And don't miss these accessories shops: American Retro (35, Old Compton Street), Anya Hindmarch (157, Sloan Street), Octopus (28, Carnaby Street), Pickett (149a, Sloan Street), Stephen Jones (36, Great Queen Street), Tatty Devine (236, Brick Lane), @work (156, Brick Lane).

Tatty Devine

For an alternative shopping I suggest you to visit Cyberdog (Unit 14, Stables Market): very peculiar shop in the heart of Camden Town. The products solded are different: clubwear, pants, skirts with crazy cuts, watches that glow in the dark, neon accessories and more: Try it!
If go to London you can't not visit the markets. Portobello Road: is the most turistic of london markets. You can find antiques, vintage clothes, accessories... whatever you want. Brick Lane Market: you can find furniture, food, dvd. New and old thing. A little tip? Go on an empty stomach: you will find delicacies from the whole world, that will whet your appetite! Camden Market: You will find everything: from clothes to accessories, from food to music. I suggest you to visit the victorian building in the center: there are vintage clothes and accessories, new and old pieces (the iconical t-shirts). Covent Garden: A lot of vintage clothing, jewels and carft and the quality/price ratio is excellent.
And I can't not to mention the department stores. Who have never heard of Harrods?  It's one of the oldest department stores of London located in 87/135, Brompton Road. Whatever you're looking for, you will find there! Westfield London Shopping center (54a The Broadway): a mega shopping center with more of 300 shops.

Camden Market

If you are intentioned to visit London, don't forget to go to Britain and London visitor center (1, Lower Regent Street) and ask about LONDON PASS: with it you can access for free at many exhibitions and events and advantageous promotions for tourists. It's great, isn't it?
So, what you waiting for? London is waiting for you!
As usual, i hope to being helpful with this my little "guide" and you enjoy it. See you next month  with I love shopping in Berlin!

MET Ball 2012: best and worst looks

It was held the annual MET Ball that every fashion lover looks forward to find out the outfits of starlettes and models and that this year celebrates two italian excellents in the fashion world: Elsa Schiapparelli and Miuccia Prada, two women who, in different times, suggested new readings, trough their innovations in fashion.
The Metropolitan Museum of art pays tribute to these great women trough an awaited exhibition, "Schiapparelli and Prada: impossible conversation", from May 10 to August 19.

Elsa Schiapparelli and Miuccia Prada
The show is nothing but a "call and reponse" between two style that characterizes and changed two different periods. Baz Luhrman direct the engaging debate showing on one hand, the surrealist and classic of Elsa; on the other the postmodern and ecletic - chic of Miuccia.

Baz Luhram, Anna Wintour, Miuccia Prada
More than 200 pieces that tell the iconic stories of these two ladies, with a period ranging from 20's to  50's and from 80's to now, on a mix of clothes, accessories and pictures that will parade, into seven categories, divided by theme: Waist up/Waist down, Ugly chic, Hard chic, Naif chic, The classic body, The exotic body and The surreal body.

As with any event, the exhibition was presented at the Party Gala ceremony, attended by Miuccia Prada and a parterre of stars from fashion, television, music and cinema.
Many rumors and curiosity about who would wear Prada, but she was very clear about it saying that not everyone can wear Prada,'cause she has in her mind "a type" of ideal girl and only she will have the opportunity to chose the dress created by the designer. Among the lucky ones that had the honor to wear the italian brand, there were: Gwyneth Paltrow (amazing in her mini - dress), Amber Valletta and the new bride Carey Mulligan (Miuccia Prada designed her wedding dress).
There were so many celebs who showed so many looks and, of course, there were choises that I liked most and other that I liked less.
In my opinion the best look are:

WHITE
A lot of stars chose to wear this color shade. The best looks have been worn by Claire Danes (elegant, classy and beautiful in her J. Mendel dress) and Anna Wintour (that worn a great  white gown signed by Elsa Schiapparelli) followed by Amy Adams (in Gianbattista Valli), Ashley Greene (in Donna Karan Couture), Jessica Biel (in Prada) and Lily Collins (Valentino).

Claire Danes - Anna Wintour
Amy Adams - Ashley Greene
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake - Lily Collins

BLACK
Black was the true protagonist of outfits shown on red carpet. Of all, I preferred the looks of Gisele Bundchen (in my opinion the best dresses, amazing and sexy in her Givenchy dress), Rooney Mara (elegant and classy, but I'd smile a little), Cate Blanchett (a true diva in her Alexander McQueen feathered gown) and Chloé Sevigny (saucy in her Miu Miu dress)

Gisele Bundchen - Rooney Mara
Cate Blanchett - Chloé Sevigny

METALLIC
A blaze of gold and silver has illuminated the carpet of MET. Stars as Cameron Diaz (sparkle in her Stella McCartney gown), Camilla Bell (in Ralph Lauren), Carey Mulligan (so pretty in her Prada dress), Gwyneth Paltrow (amazing in Prada, even if her outfit was too minimal for the occasion), Anne V (Prada), Jessica Alba (in Michael Kors).

Cameron Diaz - Camilla Bell
Anne V - Gwyneth Paltrow
Carey Mulligan - Jessica Alba
YELLOW
Other color present on red carpet was yellow, worn by stars as Solange Knowles (in Christopher Kane), Emma Robert (in Escada) and Coco Rocha (pretty in her boyiend look signed by Givenchy).

Coco Rocha - Emma Roberts
Solange Knowles
GREEN
A color that not everyone can wear and that stars as Dianna Agron (in a pretty Carolina Herrera gown) and Constance Jablonsky (Haider Hackerman) showed on red carpet.

RED/ORANGE
Next to colors like yellow, green and black, another colors that we saw on red carpet are red and orange in their shades. Eva Mendes (Prada), Emma Stone (lovely in Lanvin), Kristen Wiig (in Stella McCartney), Milla Jovovich (Prada).

Kirsten Wiig - Milla Jovovich

BLUE
A classic color always elegant and sophisticated chose by Lea Michele (Diane von Furstenberg), Heidi Klum and Candice Swanepoel (Rag and Bone)

Candice Swanepoel

And now, for the categories Worst dressed and Maybe not, we have celebrities as Rihanna, Florence Welch, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kirsten Dunst. Here an overview of definitely out looks:

Giovanna Battaglia
Rosario Dawson
Beyoncé

Giovanna Battaglia: the editor of L'Uomo Vogue chose a dress by Dolce e Gabbana that definetely is not for her. It gets her old at least twenty years and that headgear...
Rosario Dawson: the beautiful actress in leather gown by Calvin Klein. The only problem is it's not exactly suited to the color of her skin. Beyonce: the gown she chose a gown by Givenchy that is unnecessarily transparent, that doesn't exalt her physique, rather it accentuates her abundant curves (althoug I think she looks better a little more meat) and doesn't enanches her complexion. Result? Rejected!

Bianca Brandolini D'Adda
Florence Welch

Bianca Brandolina D'Adda: what the hell did she wear? Usally she chooces simple, elegant and glamurous outfits. What was she thinking? Florence Welch: this dress by McQueen looked so much better worn by the model. She looks like a huge meringue and I refuse to believe she is 24!

Grace Coddington
Hilary Swank
Kate Upton

Grace Coddington: looking this picture I can't hlp to think to the witch of Hansel and Gretel. Definitely wrong look for the journalist and former model. Hilary Swank: the dress is nice but she looks too banal and doesn't do justice to it. Kate Upton: no specific reason, I don't think this looks is for her.

Kirsten Dunst
Kristen Stewart
Lana del Rey
Kirsten Dunst: terribly wrong choice for the actress that showes an old - fashioned outfit and a tired look that hides her beauty. Kristen Stewart: I don't like this Balenciaga dress, she look older than her young age. Poor Kris, it looks that she had not desire to be there. Lana del Rey: a new version of Morgane with some glitter more. Definetely out!

Leighton Meester
Linda Fargo
Anja Rubik

Leighton Meester: in her place, I would chose another dress and use a little less tanning spray! Linda Fargo: her purpose to homage Elsa Schiapparelli failed, she seems to get out of fairytale like "The lord of the ring"... deinitely not appropriate. Anja Rubik: exaggerated look for the model who showed a dizzy slit, a little too osé for the event.

M.I.A.
Rosie Huntington-Waithley
Sarah Jessica Parker
M.I.A: exaggerated and misplaced look, I don't like it at all. Rosie Huntington-Witheley: she a true sexy bomb, I think she could do better that that. Sarah Jessica Parker: OMG! Who killed Carrie Bradshaw and SJP's style? One the best fashion icon of last years in one of the worst outfit of the night. Seriously? Couldn't you do better?

Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs: One moment of silence for the tragic death of good taste. What is more obscene we saw on red carpet of last years. I prefer to not comment more.

Fashion trends 2012: Fluo style

Spring is almost definitely arrived and everything wears new colors. Away dark color, that accompained us during this winter, and go with more lively ones and more cheerful tones.

If you have loved the trend of color blocking last year, if your key word is dare, the collections presented for this spring/summer season are what you're looking for. I'm talking about fluo style.  Bright, lively, iridescent and irriverent tones. A true color explosion, therefore, in 80's style: pop, acid and electric colors that dominate on clothes and accessories, jewels, make up and design objects.

Fabrics are different and innovative: these range from elegant chiffon to soft silk, to hi-tech neoprene to textured leather. The pallet of colors ranges from acid yellow to fuchsia, from green to orange, for a true injection of energy and dynamism. Among brands that proposed this amazing trend we have: Blumarine, Jo No Fui, Dolce e Gabbana, Versace and Blugirl.

A-Lab Milano, Versace, Jo No Fui s/s 2012
Moschino cheap and chic, Gabriele Colangelo, Kenzo s/s 2012
Frankie Morello, Issa London, Burberry Prorsum s/s 2012
Dolce e Gabbana, Blumarine, Basso Brooke s/s 2012
Gianfranco Ferré, DKNY, Betsey Johnson s/s 2012
Les Copains, Blugirl, Roccobarocco s/s 2012
Oscar de la Renta, Mark Fast, Blumarine s/s 2012

I like this style, it's perfect for summer, 'cause it's so energic and fizzy! I felt in love with it and I've immediately update my wardrobe. Anyway, I think this this  is a perfect combo...

Fluo style - Ladyfairy's polyvore

But if you're not brave enough to wear a total fluo outfit, you can wear a basic one (as a little black dress) with some fluo pieces, that can be bottom, shoes, or jewels... just like this.

Fluo style #2 - MiuMiu's polyvore

This is the fluo outfit that I prefere. It's not totally fluo, it's classy but not too much, sexy (thanks to lace top) and you can wear it both day and night.

Fluo style #3 - MiuMiu's polyvore

Energic, fizzy and at times quirky, fluo style seem to have captured everyone, from celebs to blogger is fluo mania! It's an example of that is the eccentric rapper Nicki Minaj, testimonial with Ricky Martin of two make up collections signed by M.A.C. (Viva Glam and Pink 4 Friday), inspired by fluo style.

M.A.C. Viva Glam collection ft. Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin

M.A.C. Pink 4 Friday ft. Nicki Minaj

It's pretty clear that I was infectd too by fluo mania. If you like this style but you don't want to spend a fortune, you can opt for the proposes of brand as PullandBear, Zara, Bershka and H/M. I prepared a little gallery of garments and accessories that you may like.

If you want to complete the look, you can chose fluo style for nails and make up.

What do you think? Do you like it too?
