Is ended yesterday the first edition of Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, a special four days event, held from August 16th to 19th in the Summerhall, dedicated to fashion world trough catwalk shows, exhibitions, workshops, talks, concerts, screening, conferences and gala parties. The purpose of the event was to stimulate some of the most creative and respected personalities of fashion industry, by sharing their ideas with the public and show to everyone that fashion is nothing but an expression of art.
Whithin the abudant program, there were many interesting conferences, great exhibitions, and amazing catwalk shows of more or less well-know brands in the fashion world. Here a short review of the coolest events during EIFF 2012.
"FRESH CUTS" RUNWAY SHOW
Edinburgh International Fashion Fastival gave the chance to nine of the most talented young designers (Jacob Birge, Katie Bremner, Hannah Cumming, Polly Preston, Eva Ng, Natalie Alkhafaji, Natalie Traynor, Theodora Makariou and Linda Kim), graduated in 2012 at Edinburgh's Heriot Watt University and Edinburgh College of Art, to present their final degree collections to the international fashion scene in one big runway show.
PAM HOG RUNWAY SHOW
Pam Hogg is one of the most creative, eccentric, original and iconoclastic characters of the fashion scene. For this event she presented some of her best pieces of her F/W 09 - F/W12, including some of the finale pieces from these collections. She continued the night with an after party with live music and DJ set by artist, Jim Lambie.
CHRISTINA BORCHER RUNWAY SHOW
A magic aurea enchanted the Summerhall thank to the young visionary and original denamrk designer who brought on catwalk her "creatures" that seem to came out from a dark fairytale. A suggestive and dreaming collection signed by Christina Borcher.
BEBAROQUE RUNWAY SHOW
A lovely fashion show, in which the scottish label presented the F/W12 collection, called "Tsarina", whose a piece was worn by Jessie J during the closing ceremony of the London Olympics Games.

For the first edition of EIFF, the designer Aimee McWilliams presented an archive that contains some aspects of her career, from designs for parisian Haute Couture to one-off pieces commissionated by private boutiques, following the concept of luxuriousness and sensuality that link them. She also presented some pieces by Balmain, where she worked as creative director in 2009, and some other ones from her eponymous label present during the London fashion week.
"PAM HOGG & FAR FROM THE MUDDING CROWN" EXHIBITION AND SCREENING
This special exhibition has been realized by the designer Pam Hogg with the collaboration of one of the most famous photographer of the moment, Rankin. The exhibition contained Pam Hogg's garments and headpieces installed as a dramatic sculpture and surrounded by pictures of her collection taken by Rankin. During the exhibition, were screening movies linked to her collections.
FASHION REVOLUTION CHINA EXHIBITION
This incredible exhibition shown off, trough the fashion history, the political, economic and social changes that have taken place in China during the 20th century. The purpose of the exhibition was also to tell the story of chinese fashion and make othet understand how even fashion can explain the habits and the culture of people. The pictures by Rankin, furthermore, brought the exhibition to another level.
HARVEY NICHOLS IN AID OF MAGGIE'S CHARITY RUNWAY SHOW
During the EIFF, the designer Harvey Nichols organized a charity runway show presenting his Haute Couture collection, including ones by Stella McCartney and Helmut Lang, to support Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, a foundation that helps people with cancer, helping their family too.
