Trends 2012: Baroque style

Opulance, richness and ostentation. This is how the fashion world answers to rigor and hardship caused by world economic crisis, bringing on catwalk a piece of splendor typical of Baroque, made by precious brocade fabrics, by damasks and laces, by bows and curls, by gold threads and clothes that seem Michelangelo's frescos, come out by European courts.

Baroque is back - Vogue Gioiello (2012)

This f/w, thourgh Baroque and a little bit of Rococo style, gives us the dream of a time that was in which richness and nobility used to dominate, and that helps us to hope in better times. We have seen baroque style in past years (in the collections of Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood and  Roberto Cavalli, for example), but it was brought in vogue this S/S and reproposed for F/W 2012-13 by brands like Dolce e Gabbana (that seem to have made of the glitz their mark), Balmain, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

I like this style, curated in details that don't let anything by the chance, for the structures and tailoring of the clothes, inspired by the scrolls of seventeenth - century churches and palaces, that climb the body and the enrich the most basic accessories, with an elegant and sofisticated touch. So go with corset dresses, lace tops, baroque and jacquard prints and gold or sequins inserts.

If you want you can recreate this look helping with pieces like these dresses by Prada and Alexander McQueen or other ones inspired by the past collection of Balmain, Dolce e Gabbana and Luisa Beccaria.

My fashion tip? Pay attention to not overdo with the combination: you risk to look like an antique! Try to match a baroque piece (pants or skirts) with a basic outfit maybe adding some glitz with jewels, just like that:
