Odi et Amo: Shopping

Hi, guys! This month for Odi et Amo section, I chose one of my favorite hobby ever, something that I really, really love. It's a mixed blessing of every woman, cause and solution of every problem: it's shopping! I love shopping, I would do shopping all day, every day. It's awesome, it enriches your wardrobe and, just admit it, it makes to feel so damn good! When you shop around the stores you feel like some kind of superstar, like you are the protagonist of movie who buys up all the best things at her disposal... it misses only a background soundtrack and it's done! Clothes, shoes and accessories at close range, kind and helpful clerks who treat you like you're the most important client, flattering you with many compliments... an injection of self-esteem that should not be understeemed. In conclusion, how to resist?

Odi et Amo: Anna Dello Russo's bad taste

Hi, guys! Taking advantage of a relatively lazy day and a fatigue of which I'm prey for days, I decided to take a little break from the daily routine and update my blog. And since I feel particularly inspired, I wheeled out a column I didn't take care of for a while: Odi et Amo. Protagonist of this month, the undisputed queen of trash, master in the art of exceed and provoque and muse of every transgender and no, I'm not talking about Lady Gaga who, however, in term of weirnedd knows her stuff. No, I'm talking about the inimitable, the one and only (thankfully) Anna Dello Russo and her, let's say, "particular" style.

Odi et Amo: Hula Hoop bag

Hi guys! As I've annunced few months ago, this year I want to inaugurate a new column. Has it never happened walking in the street, taking a look to fashion shows or check out the magazines to see stuff you like and you fell in love with immediately and other ones that inspire in you diametrically opposed feelings. If this happened to you at least once, you were victims too of what I call Odi et Amo Syndrome. This new column is dedicated to it, to all those stuff that you can only love or hate.

After a little anticipation dedicated to the ugliest shoes in the world (in my opinion), the Beckett shoes by Isabel Marant (of which I talked about here), I couldn't wait to start officially and, finally, now it's time! Few months ago, it was october, I was focused on magazines and fashion channels in occasion of Paris Fashion Week S/S 2013. After seeing and appreciating the collections of Dior and Chloé, I was watching the Chanel fashion show. I started complimenting the clothes and accessories, reflecting about the great taste of the collection and thinking that Chanel is always Chanel and then it comes: white leather, round... huge! Is the Hula Hoop bag, Karl Lagerfeld's personal tribute to one the most famous toy in the world, appreciated by kids and adults, presented in two versions: maxi and mini.

Okay, let's talk about it. We all agree that to succeed in fashion scene you have to be always original and never ordinary, we all agree that from a poliedric and sometimes eccentric personality like Karl Lagerfeld one we can expect everything, but this?! Watching the models wearing this impractical wheel with an unlikely nonchalance, the first question that crossed my mind was: why? And the second: seriously? Two rigid circles, equal to the circles that hover around the waist of little girls, are the handles of bag placed between the two. The result? All shock and no chic!

Oh, come on! On what occasion could you wear a bag like that? Ah, of course, on the beach! Karl said it too... I can't stop laughing thinking about the face he did when, a bit annoyed, after the show, he had to explain to an arm of stunned journalists the use of this bizarre creation: <<It's for the beach. You need space for the beach towel, huh? and then you can put it into the sand and hang things on it>>.

Seriously Karl? But thinking about it has a point... I mean, if you are not comfortable to look like Wilma Flinstone and walking a wheel, you can always work of immagination and experiment new uses. Are you running out of ideas? There are some that might interest you...
  • Did you exceed with food during the holidays and you put on a few extra pounds? No problem! Goodbye losers and smelly gyms, I do exercise with hola hoop in the rythm of Chanel!
  • Is hot outside and you are scared to get sunstroke? You can always use it as hat... but hurry up. Thats's just a question of time before Anna Dello Russo steals to you the idea!
  • Your boyfriend or your friends dragged you in camping and you don't want to give up to glamour? Don't worry: open it and do a tent;
  • Did you say to your boss that you're sick but you're actually doing shopping and you're scared to be caught? Well, if you're fast you can hide inside it and no one will ever find you... for sure!

What can I say? A bag of thousand faces for thousand different personalities! Now, beyond irony, I'm sorry if my words will hurt the tenderhearted feelings of the most addicted fashionistas, who elected it (in its smallest version) as best accessory of 2013, but I really don't like: I think it's ugly, uncomfortable and unusable excepted for some photoshoots realized by some glossy fashion magazines, even if matched with... no, neither in that case! Whatever my opinion is, the harsh laws of fashion have made of hula hoop the new trend for the next spring/summer season. Will it be a success? Posterity will judge!

What do you think about it? It's odi or amo?

P.S. This is what happened in my head to the sight of Hula Hoop bag... enjoy it!

Odi et Amo: The Beckett Sneakers issue

With this post I want to inaugurate a new column, that will officially start from next jenuary: Odi et Amo. I think that the title says all: it will be dedicate to all those "stuffs" related to fashion world that you can just love or hate. This is a little anticipation.

Do you know when you look something and you don't have other choice but love or hate it? Well, this is how I feel when it comes to one of the highlight of F/W 2012-13: the Beckett, the sneakers signed by the french designer Isabel Marant, that seem to have become a true must have of season. Everywhere I look, there's someone wearing a pair of Beckett! I was undecided about writing this post, but then I said to myself, why not?

Awful ancestors, in the beginning were the Y-3, the heel sneakers signed by Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas, followed by Nike, Superga (maybe the most obscene ones) and Puma which shoes, after an ephemeral launch, ended up in the pitch black of oblivion from which, I hoped they would never come out. But you know life is unfair, so we have to see the rise of Isabel Marant's Beckett!

Few months ago they conquered the fashionistas of whole world. The first was Beyoncé in the music video of "Love on top", closely followed by the super models Chanel Iman, Irina Shayk and Miranda Kerr.

Gloryfing by both celebritiesand the most common fashion addicted, presented in many different colors, the secret of these shoes is the little internal wedge, capable according to a lot of people, to slim the figure of every woman, that is combined with the classic compfort of sneakers. At the cost of attracting to me the dislikes of the most fierce fashionistas, I have to say that I don't like them at all: I think they are ugly, unfeminine and hard to combine them with other garments but jeans, leggins or tracksuits, despite on the street I saw girls wearing them with nothing short of preposterous outfits! For me, then, used to treat heels like a natural prosthesis of my feet, is unthinkble to wear sneakers outside of their charge area! Rather than staying on the treadmill with a pair of Beckett, I prefer to run with a pair of 12 cm Louboutins!

But beyond personal opinions, the question to ask is just one: are they really suitable to everyone? The answer is yes, if your name is Gisele Bundchen, you're 180 cm tall, you have a perfect body and your legs are tapered and mileage. If, instead, you are an ordinary girl with an ordinary body and an height in the average, the asnwer is absolutely no! They may be comfortable, they may lift you a little off the ground, but certainly they don't do miracles! And this is the proof!

Well, these girls are not exactly super models and I'm pretty sure that they know that, so what I wonder is: why?
Okay... I will not even comment these ones!

To facilitate the spread of these abominable shoes around the world (don't be mad those who have already bought them with love) are the cheap imitations, often even more ugly than the originals. Here a roundup of low cost versions proposed by brands like Manas, Promod, Buffalo, Zara, Bershka and Topshop.

And you, what do you think about? It's love or hate?
